About

Artist Statement:

Much of my original artwork was born out of a collaboration between me and my dog, Mick. I made paintings of stuffed animals that he had ripped apart. Each piece of work became a portrait or held a story. After Mick passed, I turned my attention toward pet portraiture and still life.

My work has always been influenced by the world around me. I find inspiration through examining the forms and colors of collected objects that include gourds, bones, shells, toys and figurines. These objects are reflections of my environment, both inside and outside. They also carry stories and memories of travel and places. When I draw or paint each object, I aim to see it through a new lens and provide a new perspective. The final piece becomes a portrait and often the object takes on a new persona or identity.
